Friday 23 August(2)

My drive to Ardnamurchan lighthouse, westernmost point of Great Britain, was in the aforementioned torrential rain, along narrower and narrower single track roads with steadily worsening road surfaces. Then, as I drew into the car park, the sun came out and the world changed for the better,

The guide told us, slightly regretfully, that these days, instead of lighthouse keepers,  a man in Edinburgh sits at a computer monitoring all the lighthouses in Scotland.

Since then I have returned to Crinan for a farewell dinner and made my way to Rothesay via the Cowal peninsula, a sculpture park and the Benmore Botanic Gardens.
