Thursday 25 July(1)

I’m coming to the end of my time in Northumberland, probably over the border tomorrow and then on to Edinburgh.
Preston Tower, built 1392, is one of 78 Pele towers or tower houses built when warfare between England and Scotland was endemic, fortifications being required for domestic houses in the Borders right up until the Union in 1603 while in England comfortable Tudor manor houses were being built.

Nice clock, similar mechanism to Big Ben but fortunately with a smaller bell as I was within a few feet of it when it struck 11 o’clock.

Budle Farm campsite was recommended to me as a stunning place by a lady in the wheel balancing workshop in Sunderland  - and she wasn’t wrong, virtually no facilities but the view more than made up for that.
