Preston Tower, built 1392, is one of 78 Pele towers or tower houses built when warfare between England and Scotland was endemic, fortifications being required for domestic houses in the Borders right up until the Union in 1603 while in England comfortable Tudor manor houses were being built.

Nice clock, similar mechanism to Big Ben but fortunately with a smaller bell as I was within a few feet of it when it struck 11 o’clock.
